spaciousness

I.

I walk around the room
open anything
everything I can
that drawer
this cupboard
that window
this jar of peanut butter
the wind comes in the window
the peanuts
fill the air
pungent
what more can I open?
a new box of pens
I rip the plastic
take the cap off one
and write
truth
on both my palms
still not open enough though
I take all the books off my shelves
Beloved
“this is not a story to pass on”
Almanac of the Dead
the tribal revolution is coming
Everything is Illuminated
yes, there is light!
Rumi
god is love

II.
I lie them all out on the carpet
open them
let the wind rustle their pages
let the peanut butter
mesh
with their bookish scents
let their words seep into
the air
open anything I can
splay my arms
expand
stretch my mouth open
shout
authenticity
open my eyes wide

III.
i am still trying to hear my own words
